Outdoor vs Indoor Boudoir Shoots: What you need to know.
If you’ve peeped through our Portfolio at all, you’ll notice a lot of our boudoir experiences happen in the great outdoors. The romantic in me, loves the juxtaposition of beautiful women in the beauty of nature living their absolute best lives! Yet, I am aware that there are some factors involved in outdoor boudoir that might not be right for everyone. For that reason, I felt it was the perfect time to Venn diagram this baby!
What you need to know about outdoor photoshoots.
They’re for the bold.
An outdoor boudoir shoot means you’ll be in lingerie (or nude) in a public place. On the positive side, Washington has a very nudity friendly laws but that doesn’t mean there won’t be people. We often select locations that are off the beaten path or somewhat easy to provide a semi-private shooting environment. It is important though to note, we can’t kick the general public out, so there may be passersby.
Weather can be unpredictable.
Outdoor shoots in the PNW especially are a bit of a gamble. Rain can happen anytime here but thankfully rarely lasts for a long time. Thankfully, we usually shoot in densely wooded locations that provide loads of tree cover and shelter from the rain. So it’s important to know that the weather on the day of your shoot could be unpredictable. We keep an extremely close eye on the weather in the days ahead of your shoot and will recommend that it is rescheduled if we feel the weather will be an issue. It’s important to note that, in nearly three years, we’ve only rescheduled two shoots, due to smoke/air quality and none due to rain or snow.
They create a truly one of a kind experience.
Nature is always changing and let’s be honest, most people don’t have outdoor boudoir experiences. You will have something truly unique and completely one of a kind. You can connect with nature in a way many others never have the opportunity to do, AND you have beautiful professional images to commemorate the experience!
There are limitations.
A shoot in the wildness means we can’t guarantee access to a bathroom, and there’s limited access to the Glam Closet for outdoor couture shoots.
Location, Location, Location
There are so many locations available that the options feel virtually endless. We are only limited by the weather conditions and our willingness to hike out. Keep in mind your physical ability and any scheduling limitations, as outdoor shoots make for long days.
What you need to know about studio photoshoots.
They’re a well oiled machine.
On location shoots simply have more variables. In studio experiences are a well oiled machine. We know what the lighting conditions will be, have access to power, our gear and are able to create a more stable environment for your shoot.
Two Words: Climate Control
Early man understood the appeal of shelter. Mother nature is unpredictable, especially in the PNW. A roof, walls and modern technology with fans, heat and air conditioning assure we have a comfortable temperature and conditions for your shoot at all times.
Late Night Shoots
While we can only shoot during daylight hours at most outdoor locations, all indoor shoot options are available at night. Like our Neon Dream sessions, which are only available Saturdays, after dark.
Luxe Collection Access
Many of the items in our Glam Closet are high end, handmade and/or fragile so unavailable for outdoor shoots. Indoor Couture experiences have full access to the Glam Closet. As items aren’t exposed to the elements the risk of damage is significantly decreased.
Dreamy, Curated Sets
We put a lot of thought into creating our indoor sets and making a one of kind setting for your images. The great outdoors is beautiful but can more easily be replicated than our curated and designed studio sets.
Same Day Reveal Cocktail Hour
For select shoots, we can offer same day reveals and ordering sessions! You’ll just take a leisurely lunch break and return for cocktail hour and to view all of the amazing images we created together! This is exclusive to studio shoots and available upon request.
Honestly, you can’t go wrong with either option. There are pros and cons to each. What’s most important is what would you like your images to look like? How do you envision your boudoir experience? Let us make that a reality!
