Kubota Garden
Today I took a good friend out for a walkabout and mini camera lesson. Although I've been shooting on and off for the last 16 years, this is the first time that I actually tried to explain things to someone. Usually the Mr. just follows me around, acting as my camera assistant and holding things when I ask him to. Otherwise I fly solo and rarely say a word (isn't that lovely sometimes?).
I have to say I'm really happy with how the mini teach went! Ali was a great student (no surprise there) and really eager to learn. I taught her a few little tips and tricks and just tried to cover the overall functions and how they all interact. The Kubota Garden was absolutely beautiful and we got a bit turned around at times. There were lots of weddings and even a quinceañera. In true August in Seattle fashion, it was busy and sunny and cloudless thus HOT. There was plenty of sunshine which lead to some really great photo opportunities. I truly cannot wait to see what she creates!
Shooting style is so different from one person to the next that I sure not everyone goes by my 'avoid ISO changes unless necessary' motto.Something I was reminded of this week, (that I am trying to truly take to heart) is "there's no such thing as 'right' in photography". We so often get hung up on the correct composition, exposure, focal length, white balance that one can lose sight of the original vision. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am an odd juxtaposition of darkness & joy, glitter & gore, goth & glee. So if you're new around these parts, don't be surprised if you notice a mix of the two.
Here are some of my favorite shots from the Kubota Garden today.
